This well-written and informative booklet explains the unconstitutional danger that COINTELPRO (short for "counterintelligence program") poses to our nation. It is a branch of the FBI whose sole function is to undermine by any means necessary the work of activists seeking social change. J. Edgar Hoover's directive to the agency was to "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize" its targets, which included organizations including the Black Panthers, United Farm Workers, the American Indian Movement and a wide range of activist groups and individuals.
