The fourth and final installment in author Karl Ove Knausgaard's seasonally-themed autobiography, Summer splices together diary entries addressed to Knausgaard's daughter with descriptive writing touching on everything, from the banal to the profound. Perhaps the most intimately written of the four volumes, Summer explores Knausgaard's own childhood and the difficulties and dramas of his relationship with his father. In an attempt to transform his own pain and memory into meaning for his daughter, Knausgaard crafts a heartfelt narrative out of the joys and sorrows of parenthood.
