Many people — whether raised secularly, within some Abrahamic religion, or otherwise — have preconceptions of what the devil is, culturally. Oftentimes, the figure is seen as a pure antithesis to a a divinity. This book however seeks to expand that notion, exploring the different folkloric influences and interpretations of the devil that have existed in Europe throughout history; the author eventually traces these cultural evolutions and origins back to Vedic origins and witchcraft in India — as well as presenting cultural hypotheses on the nature of the devil and its relation to ailments, conditions, and problems in culture, in the past.
