I am Ruby Bridges

In this children's book, civil rights icon Ruby Bridges tells the story of how she became the first Black child to integrate the William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana. Despite facing crowds of hateful white people and enormous obstacles, Bridges successfully made history and paved the way for integration across Jim Crow America. Illustrated by NAACP-nominated artist Nikkolas Smith, this book belongs in homes and classrooms everywhere and is an excellent and accessible introduction to one aspect of the fraught history of race in the United States.
