Halloween Traditions in Boston
This book of explores the history of Halloween, from its origins in Celtic lore and subsequently follows that and dovetails into the American history of the tradition, namely how the holiday as we know it evolved in Boston, Massachusetts. It’ll go into stories like that of Stingy Jack, a man banned from both heaven and hell, perpetually in limbo, that went on to be the namesake of what we call a carved pumpkin lantern in today’s day and age. It’ll touch upon the traditions in Salem, Mass., explore the origin on wearing costumes and asking for candy or tricks and how these traditions that have been considered to be American came from Boston and the areas surrounding it.
