The Comparative Sigrdrífumál: Historical rune magic, advice from a valkyrie, & a pagan prayer
The Sigrdrífumál is a poem that depicts the prayer of the valkyrie Sigrdrífa (similar to the greek goddess Nike, meaning the bringer of victory). This pagan prayer is her response to the presence of the gods, as her prayer evolves into a magical incantation. The poem is mysterious but also influential. It was found in fragments, as were and are many runic findings of the past. This book will explain the ways in which it was influential to scholarship that explores the development of the Younger Futhark (the Viking runic “alphabet”), as well as the wisdom it holds stand-alone.
