Bears Ears: A Human History of America's Most Endangered Wilderness

This book examines the history and a personal encounter with Bear Ears National Monument area, in SE Utah, one of the US’s most important and impactful regions—containing the most archeological sites that any other area in the country. It was designated a protected area in 2016 only to get that designation stripped by the Trump administration a year later. In addition to its archeological importance, it contains vulnerable and beautiful nature that’s not being threatened by oil and natural gas extraction, as well as livestock grazing and recreation vehicular use. This area is the author’s favorite place on the planet. The book contains an in depth history that spans over a million years, that is blended with memoir that explores the past 25 years the author’s research and time living here.
