Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
by Betty Edwards Author
I love this book -- I discovered it at age 10 or 11, and after half-assedly doing a few of the exercises I turned in a drawing of a gymnast as my art homework that was so much improved over my previous art that I was accused of tracing it! Which kind of scared me off the whole thing for a bit, but I recently picked this up again and fell in love with the simplicity of Betty Edwards's vision -- that learning to draw is the same as learning to read, something humans are hard-wired to do and that, when we do it, can open up the world to us in a whole new way. Ultimately, it's about learning to see and trust the creative side of our brains to give us as good and valid information about the world as the analytical side.
