Tristessa

A dark account of suffering and pain, Jack Kerouac's Tristessa is a short novel telling of an "ill-fated romance" between an American man and a carefree Mexican prostitute. When the man returns after a year of being separated from the woman, however, he finds she is slowly falling to pieces. This quick story's disjointed writing adds to the ever-present heartbreaking and haunting tone.
