Protest Grim Reapers

A collection of details from 27 press photos from the 1960s-1990s that each shows someone attending a protest dressed an iconic hooded black cloak and carrying a scythe. Who were these grim reapers and what were they doing at street demonstrations against war, animal abuse, the death penalty, radioactive waste, hunger, plant closures, restrictions on abortion, and more?
