Burmese Days: A Novel

Animal Farm and 1984 author George Orwell served with the Imperial Police in Burma during his early adulthood, and his real-life experience there serves as the basis for this novel's vivid backdrop. A group of Englishmen meet regularly at a European Club to drink and quell their loneliness in this foreign country. One member, James Flory, faces conflict in the forms of an Indian friend trying to gain admittance to this exclusively white group and (as is typical) a girl.
