While I appreciate the anti-war sentiments of this statement, I take serious issue with the fact that it conflates peace with virginity (and, therefore, violence and evil with sexual experience). My guess is that some radicals think this comparison was chosen for relatively superficial reasons. After all, bombing/ peace and sexual experience/ virginity are indeed two sets of opposites, and just about any statement that uses the word “fuck” or references sex in any way is likely to get a lot of people's attention. But in a broader context, the comparison feeds into anti-sex tendencies in Western culture that are at the root of staggering amounts of misogyny and anti-queer discrimination. I've been pissed off by this quote before and am disappointed to see Microcosm Publishing distributing it. It's inconsistent with the anti-oppression ideology expressed in the rest of their published content.
Support the troops? Are you joking? Never. The troops ARE the war. You can't be against the war but support the troops. It's a contradiction. They knew what they were signing up for. They chose the course they took. The deserve what they get.
