The Closing of a Corner Store
by Amelia Bjesse-Puffin Author
A touching tribute to an oft-overlooked neighborhood institution. Amelia chronicles the sudden closure of the local Rite Aid in her rapidly-gentrifying Portland neighborhood. "I was sad to lose the convenience of living right next door to a store with a little bit of everything. I felt a little silly about feeling so bad; there are so many more important things, big and awful things, I could spend my time worrying about. But when I showed up at the liquidation sale, I realized that I wasn't alone in my feelings." She spent a couple of cold February days taking photos and interviewing her neighbors. The result is a compelling slice of humanity and a snapshot of a changing city.
