Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks, and Other Outlaws
...is a sweet, insightful book that's edgy and relevant. Written by Kate Borstein, author of "Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us," this book is packed with suggestions for overcoming life's toughest times, whether you're trans or cis, gay or straight, teenaged or old, or anything in between.
I found the section on bullies particularly helpful. Why should I let a bully's voice be my own voice? Why believe what the bullies say? Some of the 101 alternatives include: Give Yourself Permission, See Yourself in Everyone You Meet, Send Out A Distress Signal, Make Longer-Range Plans, and my favorite, Stay in Bed. This book encourages you to be afraid, be upset, but also find the courage to be alive.
