Framing the Artists: Artists & Art in Film & Television
Fictional representation of art and biographical film about deceased artists are prevalent in mainstream media, yet living artists and their work don’t always get the same attention. These portrayals reveal what we know about artists and their work. Many depict artists’ unusual behavior, love affairs, or self-destructive tendencies. Few biographies seriously consider the artists’ creative process.
This zine overviews these characterizations and questions the role of representation that this entails. The following reviews are examples of artists and their work in film and TV.
