The Doulas: Radical Care for Pregnant People
by Mary Mahoney Author and Lauren Mitchell Author
Pregnancy is all too often trivialized in a patriarchal society. Doulas Lauren Mitchell, Mary Mahoney, and Miriam Zoila Pérez created The Abortion Doula Project to combat this dismissal. The founding radical ladies operate with the intent to provide ongoing, nonjudgmental support to women enduring all sorts of pregnancy woes, from miscarriage to abortion. Their introduction of the practice is a necessary response to the societal dismissal of the pregnant experience, especially when challenged by the precariousness of female reproductive rights. The Doulas underlines this necessity, promoting the social integration of the doula as a unifying exercise in both activism and care.
